Bobcats Win Fifth State Title

Refugio football, once again on top of the state 2A Division I mountain.
The Bobcats, winning their fifth state football championship Wednesday night, beating Post at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. After the Antelopes scored the game’s first seven points, the Bobcats reeled off 28 unanswered points to win, 28-7. Quarterback Austin Ochoa, named the game’s offensive MVP after rushing for all four Refugio touchdowns. Ochoa ran for 108 yards and he threw for 201 yards. The Antelopes passed for one yard in the game. Bobcat sophomore Javon Williams, named defensive MVP. Bobcat football wins its third state title this decade to go along with the 2011 and 2016 crowns. Our Sean Coffey talked with the state title game MVP’s in Arlington.

Said Ochoa, “We had to start running the ball a little bit more. The passing wasn’t really working. In the second half we ran the ball. That’s what we did.”

Said Williams, “It showed that we have a lot of heart. This team doesn’t give up. That’s one thing I’m proud of about this team. I’m glad I have a chance like this to play with them.”

Said Ochoa, “It’s a blessing and so much more to bring back a state title to Refugio. “

This is the first Refugio football team ever to go 16-0 in a season.
