Refugio City Council name new acting police chief
REFUGIO- Capt. Enrique Diaz is the new acting chief of the Refugio Police Department.
The decision came after city council learned former Chief of Police Andy Lopez Jr. was resigning and a unanimous vote. Lopez held the position since October 2010 and according to Mayor Wanda Dukes, a job offer ultimately led to his resignation.
In a letter submitted to city council on February 28, Lopez said he planned on pursuing other avenues and left on good terms. Dukes said Lopez originally informed city leaders he planned to retire from the department.
An attempt to contact Lopez for comment was made on Tuesday but the phone call was not immediately returned.
Diaz will serve as the acting chief of police until the city appoints a new chief after the May 6 election.
The city is accepting applications.
