Refugio Bobcats celebrate their 2019 championship win
Seven months after becoming champions the Bobcats recieived ther rings
REFUGIO, Texas – The Refugio High School football team went undefeated at 16-0 becoming the 28th team to win at least 5 state championships. The Refugio Bobcats beat post in the championship game on December 18, exactly seven months ago from today when they received their championship rings.
The Refugio Bobcats presented their team with the championship ring delivery on Saturday morning. Students drove in their cars up to the school as head coach Jason Herring and other coaches delivered the rings to each students car window. In addition, all were required to wear face masks. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the rings were set back and delivery was delayed, but the coaches and students feel it was well worth the wait.
“To be able to reward them with a State Championship ring is something they’ll have forever that no one could take away from them. It’s just the ultimate thing, makes me feel real special,” said Herring.
Coach Herring continued to say that he is thrilled for the students as well as bringing another championship to the community.
The University Interscholastic League will soon make an announcement whether the start of the 2020 season will remain the same or be pushed back to a later time. As of now, they are projecting to start practice on August 3 and have their first game on August 28.
