Public Prayer Service For Burned Islamic Center Brings in Hundreds
VICTORIA– Hundreds of people gathered outside The Victoria Islamic Center located at 201 E. Airline at 10 a.m. Sunday morning for a public prayer service. The service comes one day after the center went up in flames. Area religious leaders held an interfaith prayer service and some offered their places of worship to the displaced Muslim community, so they could have a place to pray. The cause of the fire is still under investigation with several agencies aiding in the investigation. A fund-raising campaign online to help rebuild the center has already reached half a million dollars. The public is invited to come out when the newly rebuilt center is complete which they hope comes before the month of Ramadan in late May.
