Protect your Christmas gifts from thieves by following these safety tips

According to Forbes, 82% of holiday shoppers buy their gifts online. The Victoria Police Department would like to give you a few safety tips to keep your packages out of the hands of thieves.

The driving force behind online shopping is the featured deals and this has caused Christmas shopping to become a lot cheaper and easier for consumers, but what can you do to protect your purchase from thieves?

Adam Banda, the Victoria Crimes Prevention Officer said, “One of the first things that I would recommend is to have it delivered to the Post Office and pick it up from the Post Office or if you order it from the store. I would have it shipped to the store so that you can go to the store when you get off of work and go pick it up there”.

According to Business Wire, more than 25 million Americans have had their packages stolen from their residence.

Officer Banda shows that more than 1,200 thefts have occurred from January to October 2019. Officer Adam Banda shares more tips on how to protect your Christmas gifts.

“One of the other things I would recommend is to have it shipped to your house when you know you’re going to be there. I would also install maybe the ring camera if you can, so you can see when it’s delivered and maybe on your lunch go home and pick it up” said Banda.

We spoke with a local community member to see how neighborhoods can stick together against thieves.

“I really just live in a neighborhood where we watch out for each other. So we need to watch out for each other and if anyone does have a tip share it,” said Diana Lightfoot a Victoria resident.

If you see anything in your community that may look suspicious please call your local police department.
