President Trump expected to end DACA
WASHINGTON- Hundreds of thousands of dreamers waking up to a tough reality. President Donald Trump is expected to announce he will end the program offering protections to the only life they know – one in the United States. The so-called “dreamers” are young immigrants brought to the U.S. as children. White House officials tell ABC News the President will likely phase out the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA.The program was put in place by President Obama to give young immigrants legal status. It now stands to be stripped away by President Trump who campaigned promising to be tough on immigration. The President’s plan comes despite a call from 66 mayors in 29 states to keep DACA.And an open-letter from hundreds of major business leaders like Facebook, Apple, Amazon and Google encouraging President Trump to preserve the program.Plans to phase out DACA would send the issue over to Congress for a long-term legislative solution.
