Port Lavaca resident warns of IRS phone scam

A Port Lavaca resident is warning residents of a possible phone scam.

Sheila Christian says she received several calls from a Washington area phone number claiming to be from the IRS or Department of Treasury. The caller threatened to arrest her if she refused to wire money over. Christian says if you receive a call like this, there’s only one thing to do.

“Don’t call it back. And call the police department. And, most of all? Block it from your phone, so they can’t get back in touch with you. Because, it’s all a scam.”

If you believe you’ve been scammed, you can contact the Port Lavaca Police at 361-552-3788 to file a report.
