Port Lavaca Police Department toy drive, Blue Santa, volunteers begin gift wrapping toys ahead of Christmas week distribution

Hundreds of toys were donated by community members

PORT LAVACA, Texas – The Port Lavaca police department almost canceled its Blue Santa program this year, but the community came together to fix Santa’s sleigh.

The event was put on by the Port Lavaca police department and makes sure local kids in need get Christmas gifts.

Earlier today, they had a gift-wrapping session to gift-wrap all the toys in preparation for when they plan to distribute all the gifts during Christmas week.

One gift-wrapping volunteer is glad the community rallied to bring this program back.

“I’m just so happy that they actually saved it because of all those poor kids not getting gifts. Christmas is a holiday where everyone is supposed to be happy and gets gifts and that just spread the joy. Me being here helping everyone, I’m just so happy I get to be a part of it,” says Isabella Dimak, Gift Wrapping Volunteer.

Thanks to the Port Lavaca community and Blue Santa, local kids will not be empty-handed this holiday season.
