Port Lavaca hosts its annual Festival of Lights Parade
The winners of the parade will be announced Saturday Dec. 4 at Port Lavaca's Merry on Maine
PORT LAVACA, Texas – Port Lavaca held its annual Festival of Lights Parade Friday evening December 3. The parade featured over 30 different floats. Some were decked out with speakers, Christmas lights, streamers, and one even had a live band on the back of their trailer.
The parade kicked off at 6:30 in the evening with Santa Clause lighting the Christmas tree in the back of the Bayfront Peninsula Park. Once the parade was underway the floats made their way towards the Sandcrab Stadium in Port Lavaca.
Calhoun High School had their marching band and cheerleading team in the parade as well. Two members of the cheerleading lead say the annual event brings the community together.
“I feel like it’s bringing our community together and we all get to have fun and spend time with our family and friends. It means a lot to me because we can come together as a team in order to put on a parade for little kids and their families,” says Calhoun High School cheerleaders Angelina Fredericksen and Anna Williams.
On Saturday, December 4 the City of Port Lavaca will announce the winners of the parade at Merry on Main, a holiday community shopping event taking place from 10 am to 4 pm in Port Lavaca. For more information on the Merry on Main click here.
