Plan ahead to stay safe this New Year’s Weekend

The Victoria County Sheriff’s Office is reminding people to stay safe on the road this holiday season.

With New Years Weekend a day away there will be plenty of drivers on the road, some sober and others drunk.

VCSO says last year out of the 639 drivers who died in DUI related accidents, 321 people were not the drunk driver.

These include pedestrians, bicyclists and passengers.

“Anybody that is out and going to be enjoying themselves and partaking in alcoholic beverages should always have a designated driver within their group. It just might save a life, and it just might save yours,” said VSCO Chief Deputy Roy Boyd.

Last year during the state wide eight day Christmas and New Year’s Day enforcement effort, DPS troopers also made 466 DUI arrests.
