No Break in Extreme Heat This Week, and No Rain Expectations Either

An upper level ridge remains locked into position over the Lone Star State this afternoon and does not appear to be apt to relocating until sometime late this weekend. In the meantime, we can expect sunny and hot afternoons along with fair and warm nights. We are currently more than 8 inches below normal in annual rainfall to date, and vegetation is becoming dangerously dry. Our next opportunity for beneficial rainfall is early next week, as the upper ridge moves into the Southern Appalachians and allows tropical moisture to bring isolated showers. Meanwhile, the tropical Atlantic Basin and Eastern Pacific remain devoid of disturbances, while Hawaii has a major threat for Category 4 Hurricane Lane.
