No. 1 Refugio and No. 2 Shiner face off in the most anticipated game of the season
Bobcats and Comanches will meet again in Victoria
The Bobcats and Comanches will meet again in the regional finals. This game has been circled on both teams’ schedules all year.
The Bobcats are coming off a 54-7 win over the Ganado Indians on Friday night in Calhoun. The Bobcats have only lost one game in the past three years and it was to Shiner in the regional finals last year 24-13. Refugio is scoring an average of 62 points a game while allowing an average of seven points per game. The Bobcat defense has also produced six shutouts this year. Refugio has been ranked number one in the state all year, including the preseason. Refugio will be looking for revenge after last year’s loss.
The Shiner Comanches on the other hand are the defending state champions but were ranked number two the entire year because of the loss of seniors who were on last year’s team. But the key returners are brothers junior running back/defensive back Dalton and senior running back/defensive tackle Doug Brooks. The Shiner offense scores an average of 48 points a game while allowing just over seven points per game. The Shiner defense has only allowed three shutouts this year. Shiner also has only lost one game in the past three years, and it was to Refugio in 2019 when the Bobcats went on the win the state title.
These two teams chose Victoria’s Memorial Stadium due to its central location and the recent renovation of the turf.
