Nissan of Victoria’s Stuff the Truck overwhelmed with donations

People in the Crossroads provide donations for Hurricane Ida victims

VICTORIA, Texas – Nissan of Victoria hosted a Stuff the Truck donation drop off event for Hurricane Ida victims. They collected donations from the community all week. Chris English, Nissan Financial Manager, said he and Nissan General Manager, Steve Robinson, collaborated on the event idea.

English and Robinson felt inspired to collect donations

English and Robinson know first hand what it’s like to experience loss after a natural disaster.

“Just going through the motions and looking at pictures and photos, just kind of gave me flashbacks of just growing up as a kid and how overwhelmed and devastated I was just being a kid. You know in 1998, of course we went through the flood in Cuero, Texas,” English said.

English remembers the Great Flood in 1998 that left many distraught

English remembers people getting rescued by boat in 1998. He was evacuated from his school to the Cuero Baptist Church.

“You never know when it’s going to happen and sometimes it happens really quick. Back to the flood I was sitting in high school and over the P.A. system they said classes were letting out early because the flood waters were coming in rapidly,” English said.

Nissan was overwhelmed with continuous donations from the start. They will need a U-haul truck to transport the donations. English said donations came in from Hallettsville, Shiner, Yoakum, Schulenburg, Gonzales, Refugio, and Woodsboro.

Nissan of Victoria already has three truck loads of clothing

“Well actually Friday evening, after about 6:00 or 6:30, the phone was just ringing off the hook,” he said. “It was just utterly amazing, the amount of people that were willing to say ‘Hey, we are in this with them. We are in this together. What can I bring? What can I help with?'”

Nissan of Victoria will continue accepting donations until Saturday, September 11, before 6:00 p.m. Both English and Robinson plan to drop off all donations to Louisiana on Monday, September 13. The company is no longer accepting clothes donations.
