Night of Thanks draws customers out to strip mall

With Thanksgiving less than a week away shops and shoppers at the Town and Country Shopping Center are celebrating early with a Night of Thanks.

“We’re having a Night of Thanks – it is to thank all of our customers for supporting small businesses,” Patty Janca, co-owner, Sweet Occasions said. “So at the Town and Country Shopping Center all of the businesses here are just celebrating and saying thank you and we thought we’d call it the Night of Thanks and they’ve been doing it for several years. And we just show off some of our products and have some sales and we have them stroll to the different stores so they can win door prizes.”

Janca says turn out was better than expected – and at Sweet Occasions there was more than just candy for sale – Eleanor Deuel – previously owned a store at the shopping center – and was happy to be back as part of the event. Deuel says it’s important to support small businesses.

“Because they’re really the ones supporting our community when you think about the different activities that take place in the school with the children and all the activities around town,” Deule said. “It’s the small businesses that give all this support to these groups. So your money stays in your small town when you support small businesses.”

And in a candy store, it’s easy to get in the spirit of thanks.

“They enjoyed some yummy cookies and just having fun having everyone come out for holiday shopping,” said Brianna Bundick, an Inez resident.
