PALACIOS, Texas - The Luther Hotel in Palacios is at risk of being demolished but the date to demolish it has been pushed back. The first planned demolition date was in December of 2022, but Judge Polly Spencer, a probate judge based in San Antonio ordered the temporary restraining order to be extended from April 4 to June 22, 2023 so the Luther Hotel will stay until at least then pending any other changes.
Palacios Preservation Association has worked hard to get the Luther Hotel one more week without uncertainty. The historic landmark risks demolition from the Ed Rachal Foundation, after the estate of deceased owner Jack Findley attempted to sell the property.
The committee believes the hotel's potential and history is enough to "save the Luther!" The hotel was built in 1903 and called the Bay View Hotel, at that time. In 1905, it was moved to its current location and renamed Hotel Palacios.
