Victoria Police Officer okay after assault from suspect

VICTORIA, Texas - A Victoria Police Officer is okay after he says a suspect elbowed him in the jaw.

Authorities say the suspect was trying to escape arrest. The incident happened early Monday morning.

Victoria Police Officers came across Jeremy Powell on Loma Vista. Powell was handcuffed when he tried to break free.

He had an outstanding warrant for a Class C Misdemeanor. 

Authorities say they found marijuana and methamphetamines on Powell. 

Powell is charged with assault of a public servant, possession of a controlled substance and five other charges. 

He's at the Victoria county jail in lieu of a $70,000 bond.
