VICTORIA, Texas- Victoria County Judge Ben Zeller released the following statement on the passing of Mayor McCoy:
“Victoria could not have asked for, nor has it seen a leader with greater passion, commitment and a heartfelt love for this community than Mayor Rawley McCoy. Rawley epitomized a heart of service built on all the right reasons, and he couldn’t hide his enthusiasm and desire to better the city we call home.
It was an incredible honor to work alongside Rawley so closely for the last two years and I’m jealous of his many, many friends who knew him and worked with him for far longer than me.
In a world that too often values form over substance, everyone can clearly see that Rawley was the real deal. Kind. Authentic. Passionate. Honest. Completely deserving of the trust our community placed in him.
I pray for comfort for Kay and the family. I’ll always appreciate the time Rawley and I spent together working on the issues facing our community and I’ll grieve over the future plans we had developed and the challenges we now won’t be able to tackle together.
The loss of Mayor McCoy leaves a hole in the heart of our community. But his life also showcases the best of what we can all aspire to be in the short time we’re given on this earth. Rawley McCoy’s memory leaves an enduring example of a life well lived. Rest in peace my friend.”
