LAVACA COUNTY, Texas - On Thursday, March 23, Lavaca County Sheriff's Office deputies stopped two vehicles that appeared to be transporting undocumented persons. The Hallettsville Police Department assisted with the stop.Â
A total of 13 people were located in the vehicles. According to the Lavaca County Sheriff's Office, the individuals were from Guatemala and Honduras and had entered the United States illegally. Law enforcement also determined that the two drivers were US citizens and ultimately arrested and charged them with smuggling of persons. The two individuals were booked into the Lavaca County Jail.
The 13 undocumented persons were transported to Victoria and turned over to the U.S. Border Patrol.Â
