A three vehicle accident on US Highway 59 South left five people dead, and seven injured.

The Victoria Fire Department along with Victoria County Volunteer Fire Department, DPS and Victoria County Sheriff's Office responded to a three vehicle accident on US Highway 59 South, just outside Telferner around 11:15 am.

"Crews arrived to find a significant motor vehicle accident. There was a total of three vehicles: an 18-wheeler, a passenger van, and a large pickup truck," Victoria Fire Chief, Tracy Fox told us. "There were ten people in the passenger van, two in the pickup, and one in the 18-wheeler."

Fox says there were multiple injuries along with the five fatalities.
"We had a total of 13 patients on scene. Seven were transported, five were transported here to local hospitals, one was flown to Houston to Memorial Hermann, and there were five dead on scene unfortunately," explains Chief Fox.

Trooper San Miguel with DPS says the front of the passenger van collided with the rear of the semi-trailer causing the van to lose control and cross the grass median into oncoming traffic. The van then collided head on with the F-250 pickup truck. San Miguel says one adult female, two adult males, and two children were killed in the accident. The driver of the semi truck was uninjured. San Miguel explained that more information, including details on the cause of the initial impact, would be released pending further investigation.

We were able to confirm that both passengers in the F-250 were in stable condition. The passenger from the van who was transported to Memorial Hermann is also alert, responsive, and in stable condition.

Officials blocked off the southbound lanes for more than two hours and around 3 PM, they were able to reopen the lanes.

We will update you when more information becomes available.
