New Years Eve traffic safety tips
VICTORIA, TEXAS – A TxDot study analysis shows that in 2019 there were over 24,000 DUI-alcohol related traffic crashes in the state during the holiday season. As a result those crashes killed 93 people and seriously injured 215. In order to prepare for traffic safety and potential drunk driving for the new years holiday, TxDot is making suggestions for the public to stay precautious on New Years Eve. Especially starting at 6:00 in the evening. While uber and lyft rides are more popular for those who enjoy going out on this holiday, there are other options if you cannot order a ride. Department of Public Safety Trooper Ruben San Miguel has some suggestions for the public.
San Miguel says one major step is to plan for a designated driver. Some other suggestions he offers are if you are traveling, make sure you analyze the road conditions beforehand. So there’s a time set before leaving your residence, that way you are not in a hurry, and can prevent speeding while driving. Here are more tips he suggested for everyone to stay safe this holiday.
“Make sure that you have a designated driver. There are some cab services in and around Victoria, but please be encouraged to use the designated driver program. Hopefully that is what people will plan ahead and do,” said Trooper San Miguel.
One popular app that allows people to order a designated driver is called saferride which is available on the Apple app store and Google play.
