New Memorial Stadium Turf Gets Rave Reviews
VISD H.S. Football Head Coaches Check Out Frost Bank Field
For the first time, VISD football head coaches checked out the new turf at Memorial Stadium Monday. Courtney Boyce from West joined Roland Gonzalez from East and VISD athletic director Bobby Jack Wright for an up close inspection of the new turf. Hellas Construction started work on the field March 16 and finished at the end of April. It includes an ecotherm infill, making the turf feel 20 degrees cooler than the current air temperature. The field was installed after VISD received a $600,000 dollar grant from Frost Bank. It will now be called Frost Bank Field at Memorial Stadium. The coaches had these opinions on Memorial Stadium’s first new turf in 12 years.
Said Wright, “Everything about it is first class. The product itself is state-of-the-art turf. I really like the way that they put in Warriors and Titans in each end zone. It looks really great.”
Said coach Gonzalez, “Good gosh almighty, doesn’t it look great, Don. It’s a great playing surface for our kids. A lot of credit goes to coach Wright and coach Gantt. They really pushed this thing, did a great job. We thank Frost Bank as well.”
Said coach Boyce, “This is a great thing. I really appreciate Frost Bank supporting these kids and our administration getting this done. This field is phenomenal. It’s perfect. ”
VISD high school graduations will be held on the new turf at Memorial Stadium. West’s graduation will be June 1-2. East’s graduation will be June 3-4.
