New Housing Development in the works in Edna

“Progressively secure place to live, we have excellent school systems and great utilities,” Doering said.

Edna, a city where a few thousand people call home, will hopefully be adding more affordable housing because finding a new home is hard to come by.

“My wife and I bought 2 years ago and there were very few houses to choose from,” Doering said.

The city is working with Tejas Homes on a new housing development near Brazos and Victoria streets. It will be a tax credit program with the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs worth $825,000.

“Understanding is there is a minimum family income to be considered,” Doering said.

The area will where the housing may be built is underdeveloped which will help Edna grow and bring more money into its economy.

“They will shop in our downtown area, eat at our restaurants, buy food from our grocery store and basically pay sales tax to the city,” Doering said.
