New bus route added for students zoned for Hopkins Elementary School

At least 100 students now have another transportation option in downtown Victoria

VICTORIA, Texas –  Students return on Tuesday to campuses and the district has added a bus route to ensure students attending Hopkins Elementary School can get there safely.

Some students that were previously zoned for F.W. Gross Elementary School before it was closed due to cost-cutting measures are now assigned to attend Hopkins Elementary School. This year the Victoria I.S.D. added an additional bus route so students won’t have to risk crossing several busy intersections on their way to school.

Thanks to this new route, at least 100 students will have this additional transportation option.

“Some of the hazards that are present for students that would have to walk, one example of that is Water Street narrows down to a two-lane road and is a very narrow road with quite a bit of traffic,” said Shawna Currie, Victoria I.S.D. Communications Director.

Social distancing on buses will be observed when possible.

“One to a seat or maybe two to a seat if they are in the same household but looking at some of the numbers on some of the routes it may just not be logistically possible,” Currie said.

Students are asked to remember their mask before getting on the school bus and to stay home if they are feverish or feel ill.

To look up what bus route your child is assigned to go to the Victoria I.S.D.’s website and use the Transfinder tool.

Parents will have another chance to request a change to their child’s mode of learning, either face to face or remote learning, by Monday, October 19th.
