National softball tournament underway at VYSC

A national, fast-pitch softball tournament is underway in Victoria.

Saturday marked the first day of the National U8 Fast Pitch Softball Tournament, an event featuring 27 teams and over 300 players from Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Mississippi. The Victoria Youth Sports Complex is serving as the host for this year’s tournament, the first time it is being played in the Crossroads.

“Victoria just checked all the boxes for us,” said IFA Softball board member Cindy Cowart. “We’ve had nothing but great experiences any other time we’ve ever been here. Just look at this venue.”

The positive impact of the tournament for the local economy is estimated to be roughly $175,000, according to Victoria Parks and Recreation.

After forty games on Saturday, play will resume Sunday at 8 am up until the championship contest on Sunday evening at 6 pm.
