Names released in fiery Hwy 87 crash that killed 3 Thursday
VICTORIA COUNTY – The names of the victims involved in the Thursday night fatal fiery crash have been released. Officials said the driver of the Chevy Cruz, 22-year-old Isaac Suniga III, and passengers 24-year-old Danie Rene Garcia Jr., and 18-year-old Joe Ricky Barbontin Jr. all from Victoria, were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
The accident happened around 10:43 p.m. Thursday, July 13 on Highway 87 near Wood High Road about four miles south east of Victoria. The accident involved a Chevy Cruz and a Ford pickup truck pulling both a tow dolly and a travel trailer. Officials said the car was traveling behind the truck both traveling north on Highway 87. According to witnesses, the car was speeding and crashed into the travel trailer. Upon impact, the travel trailer and the tow dolly separated from the truck. The car, the travel trailer, and the tow dolly continued traveling onto the shoulder of Highway 87 and then came to a complete stop. Officials say that’s when the travel trailer and the car caught on fire. All three people inside the car died in the fire.
The driver of the truck, 43-year-old Timothy Don Green of Victoria and passenger, 72-year-old Charles Andy McCluagher of Victoria were not injured in the accident. Both were treated at the scene and released. The accident is still under investigation.
