Mother joins Citizens’ Run Against Cancer in memory of son

Mother remembers son who died of cancer at fundraiser for area patients

VICTORIA, Texas – February is Cancer Prevention Month. The fourth annual Citizens Run Against Cancer half marathon and 5K had downtown Victoria full of runners Saturday morning.

The course began in downtown Victoria and took runners through old Victoria, Riverside Park and along the Guadalupe River.

Frances Mozisek was at the event Saturday with family and friends to remember loved ones they have lost.

“My son was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last year right before Christmas and he died in September, so it’s been five months since we had his funeral. Life goes on and we’re here to support the people that have or are still fighting cancer and this is an awesome thing that Citizens hospital does,” Mozisek said.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Victoria County from 2012-2016 there were 2,260 new cases of cancer – and in that same timespan 886 people died of cancer in Victoria County.

Proceeds from the Citizens Run Against Cancer will benefit local cancer patients.
