Monster Truck Wars in Victoria

VICTORIA, Texas– The monster truck wars had their first round of the 2020 season.

The Monster Truck Wars came to Victoria on Saturday for two shows. Both shows were filled with a huge crowd. It was loud and dusty and very entertaining.

“We do about 50 shows here around the country. Very fun and entertaining for the families; it’s a great motor sport event. I kind of like to describe it like a circus on wheels; just very loud and very entertaining,” said Monster Truck Wars promoter Ron Woodbridge.

Most of the drivers are mud racers or drag racers who have an interest in monster trucks. The trucks run over 2,000 horsepower and they weigh over 12,000 pounds. The show consists of national TV monster trucks with side acts that include arena trucks, quad wars, and sprint cars. The event has different quarters. This was the first round of this season and those with the most points at the end of the year will be crowned champion.

“So really we run a point series every single event that we do for the 2020 Monster Truck War season. The points we earn goes to a cumulative total at the need of the season. Last year in 2019 I was the points champion at the end of the season so I got a big target on my back. All these guys want to knock me off and so I’m going make them earn it,” said reigning driver Alex Rodriguez.

The trucks take a long time to assemble, but Rodriguez has fun doing it especially when getting to see an old friend and trying to keep his title.

“I’ve been driving for three years but have been working on it the past eight. I actually met my boss in this exact building back in 2012. It’s really funny how things come full circle in life. I met him here and helped in the past years here and hopefully I get to beat him here tonight,” said Rodriguez.

Next weekend the Monster Truck Wars will be in Midland Texas.
