MLB Catcher helps coach Victoria players at clinic
Local baseball and softball players had the chance to work with an MLB player at Faith Academy Field on Saturday. The Crossroads Sports and Strength Academy hosted a baseball and softball clinic with Humberto Quintero, a catcher and coach for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Quintero has spent more than 10 years in the majors, starting with the San Diego Padres in 2003. Then he spent seven seasons with the Houston Astros from 2005 to 2011. He has also played for the Royals, Phillies and Mariners. At the clinic, Quintero worked with players on catching and hitting before he heads back to Arizona for spring training.
Jason Cann, the founder of Crossroads Sports and Strength Academy, set up the clinic. He also brought some of his former teammates from UT Brownsville to help instruct the kids. Cann will be Faith Academy’s new head baseball coach this season.
