Mind school zones, buses as students return to schools in VISD

Students who opted for in person class return to campus

VICTORIA, Texas- Students in Victoria ISD return to class in person beginning Tuesday, September 8th.

School zone speed limits are in effect, please be mindful of school zones and school buses in your area.

After starting the 2020-2021 academic school year remotely, both public and private schools in the district are open to receive students in person from Tuesday going forward.

The district sent a survey to parents in July asking for their preference for their child to remain remote on September 8th or to return to class in person. Those who have opted to return to campus are welcome to go to their respective campuses and those who have opted for remote learning will continue to sign into their classes online. Synchronous and asynchronous learning material will still be provided to students regardless of their preference.

The Director of Communications for VISD explained that parents will have the opportunity to change their preference between in-person or remote learning for their child after each grading period.

Dr. Quintin Sherherd, Superintendent for VISD, expressed feelings of optimism in the district’s preparedness for an unprecedented school year. “While there have been bumps in the road, we did have a successful start to the year. Parents were more prepared to support home learning, teachers were prepared to deliver content using a variety of tools previously unavailable, and students didn’t face the same shock they experienced in March when COVID first hit. Preparation is key,” said Shepherd.
