Memorial Stadium turf ripped out
The turf that has been in place since 2008 was taken out on Tuesday
VICTORIA, Texas — The field turf that has been at Memorial Stadium since 2008 was officially taken out on Tuesday.
Hellas Construction removed the turf in forty-foot rolls, completing the first major phase of replacing it outright. Once the old field turf is removed, workers will start putting down the base for the new turf, which will begin on Monday. In total, the installation and replacement should take around six to seven weeks.
The new matrix turf that will be installed has an ecotherm infill, keeping the field about 20 degrees cooler than traditional crumb rubber. The VISD board approved a proposal by Frost Bank to donate $600,000 to the district for installing the new turf. The stadium will still be called Memorial Stadium, but the field will be named Frost Bank Field.
