Meet the Doctor: Dr. Ysuke Yahagi, M.D.
Dr. Yusuke Yahagi, a cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon at Citizens Medical, moved to Victoria in 2007. After completing his undergraduate degree at the University of Washington (Seattle), Dr. Yahagi worked in international banking before attending medical school at Teikyo University School of Medicine, where he received his MD. He completed his General Surgery Internship at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle followed by his General Surgery Residency at the University of Kansas (Kansas City), his Thoracic Surgery Residency at the University of California (San Francisco), and his Cardiac Surgery Fellowship at the University of Texas Medical Branch – Galveston. Board certified in thoracic surgery since 2008, Dr. Yahagi was in private practice before joining Victoria Cardiovascular Associates. He is an instructor for the Victoria College Nursing and Respiratory Programs, lecturing on cardiovascular and respiratory topics. In the community, Dr. Yahagi is a frequent interviewee on medical topics for local media – print, television and radio. An accomplished musician, Dr. Yahagi & the Mended Hearts band include many benefit performances in their schedule and he and his wife, April, have been contestants in “Dancing with the Stars – Victoria Style”, a fundraiser for the Billy T. Cattan Recovery Outreach in both 2012 and 2016. Dr. Yahagi is fluent in English, Japanese, German and French and enjoys international travel.
