Meet Darlene Isabella, a 2020 New Year’s Day Baby

Darlene Isabella was born at 8:56 a.m. at DeTar Hospital North on New Year’s Day.

While others were sitting down for dinner to ring in the New Year, Ma Estella Guerrero Gonzalez had to step away from her own meal to give light to a new life.

Darlene Isabella was born at 8:56 a.m. at DeTar Hospital North on New Year’s Day.

“It was a surprise because yesterday I had a doctor’s visit and from there I had high blood pressure and from there they sent me into the hospital, to check in and then they wouldn’t let me go home,” Gonzalez said. “We had a family dinner but I couldn’t go home.”

And the inspiration for the name came from her other children.

“My children picked the name and I like it so, that was it,” Gonzalez said.

And Gonzalez says she has enjoyed her stay at DeTar – it was where she had her 6-year-old son and because it was a positive experience for the Port Lavaca family – they decided to return for the delivery of their baby girl.

“They have been treating me very well, I’m very happy,” Gonzalez said.

And so far, Darlene has been a good girl, her mother says.

“She’s behaved very well, thank God,” Gonzalez said.
