McDonald’s is making sure breakfast fans don’t kick off March with a “case of the Mondays.” Fifty years after its debut, the Egg McMuffin is receiving a grand celebration: a national holiday.  The global franchise is declaring Monday March 2nd National Egg McMuffin Day, and inviting fans to celebrate by enjoying a free Egg McMuffin.

To participate, download the McDonald’s mobile app to redeem a free Egg McMuffin at participating restaurants between 6 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. (local time)*.

The breakfast game changed forever in 1971 when we introduced the Egg McMuffin—the FIRST quick service restaurant breakfast sandwich. This fan favorite was first created by Herb Peterson, an owner and operator in Santa Barbara, California, as a way to take Eggs Benedict on-the-go.
