Murder suspect indicted in Amanda Johnson death

MATAGORDA, Texas – The Matagorda District clerk’s office confirmed Tuesday morning Fernando Acosta Jr. is now indicted for murder in the case of Amanda Johnson of Victoria.

There are no additional suspects at this time and a trial date is yet to be determined

On Sunday, April 17, 2021, around 2:30 a.m., the Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office was called to CR 454 in Midfield, Texas. They found a burned vehicle with human remains inside. It was a 2018 Ford Explorer associated with a missing person report on Amanda Johnson.

Amanda Johnson was 38-years-old. She was a mother to two children.

The Matagorda District Attorney, Steven Reis, confirms that Fernando Acosta Jr. faces two additional indictments to his case.

  1. Tampering with Evidence
  2. Abuse of Corpse

Acosta Jr. was arrested for these additional charges while in custody on Wednesday, 6/23/21
