Manning trampoline team prepares to begin season
VIP Classic to take place this weekend
VICTORIA, Texas — Manning Gymnastics’ next stop will be Evansville, Indiana.
The Victoria-based gymnastics team will send two girls — 11-year old Jaden McCarter and 14-year old Paxton Henley — to the 2019 VIP Classic in Indiana this weekend. The VIP is a trampoline and tumbling event, providing Manning’s Trampoline TNT team their first taste of competition in the new year.
“Every meet we go with the same goal, and that’s just to do the best passes that they can do,” Manning head coach Chad Ganaway said on Monday. “It’s always great to start the year on a positive note. Hopefully they can go and do that.”
Both Manning gymnasts will compete at Level 10 for the VIP, which runs from February 28 to March 3. McCarter has moved up two levels since winning a Level 8 National Championship last year, while Henley will compete despite three-bulging discs in her back.
“Just mainly think about the positive side of things, just do my best,” said Henley of her goals in Evansville. “Even though if I’m suffering in practice I just have to suck it up in competitions and just do my best.”
Competition for the two gymnasts begins on Friday.
