Manning Gymnast Competes In Major USA Event 5-16
Henley Goes To North Carolina
Victoria, Texas —
In March, Paxton Henley won Athlete Of The Week honors.
The West freshman took second at the VIP Classic in Evansville, Indiana, while suffering from three bulging discs in her back.
Earlier this month, this Manning Gymnastics Elite team member took second in trampoline at regionals in Lubbock. Now, with her back feeling better, Paxton moves on to another major competition, the USA Elite Challenge. She won this event last year at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. I talked with Paxton and Manning Elite head coach Chad Ganaway.
Said Henley, “It was very special for me. But through practice and warmups I was struggling. But I just mainly had fun, did my best and came out with a second place.”
Said coach Ganaway, “She’s been able to increase her difficulty quite a bit on trampoline, which in this sport allows you to move a couple of tenths at a time. She’s up about two points from last year. She’s actually been really impressive being able to work through the pain to get to this level of difficulty.”
Paxton Henley of Manning Gymnastics competes Friday at the U.E. Elite Challenge in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
