Man arrested after stealing truck, lying about identity

VICTORIA, Texas- On February 12th, at 1:16pm, Victoria County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a pickup truck that had just been stolen in the 900 Block of FM 236, according to a statement from VCSO.

Within minutes, the pickup was located by a Deputy crashed into a fence at Old Goliad Road. A K9 was deployed to track the suspect. Deputies learned that as the suspect was stealing the pickup, he struck another vehicle in the 900 Block of FM 236 before crashing at Old Goliad Road. A few minutes later, a Deputy observed the suspect walking from a wooded area onto the 500 Block of Old Goliad Road.

He was detained and lied to deputies about his identity. Subsequent investigation led to positive identification as the suspect who had stolen the pickup. His true identity was found to be Van Buren Duval, age 41 of Victoria.

Duval was arrested for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, and also had an outstanding TDCJ Parole Warrant for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender as well as Bail Jumping, Failure to Identify as a Fugitive (2 counts). Duval was placed in jail with no bond on the parole violation, and bonds totaling $40,000 on the other charges.
