Local Youth Swimmers Head To Nationals 7-31

Three To Swim In Virginia Sunday

Three members of the Victoria Wahoo swim team, competing at nationals this Sunday.
Seven-year-old Luke Palmer of Victoria, competing in three events in his first trip to nationals. 11-year-old Bruce Bayarena of Victoria, competing in four individual events and one relay race in his first nationals trip. 14-year-old Bailee Wagner of Hallettsville will be swimming in four individual races and possibly some relays in her first nationals trip. Bailee is the daughter of former Yoakum and University Of Houston baseball star Ryan Wagner. I talked with these nationals-bound swimmers.

Said Palmer, “You don’t really know what you’ll get at the end of your races. It’s really exciting.”

Said Bayarena, “It’s really exciting. I’ve worked really hard, practiced a lot and I get to go to nationals.”

Said Wagner, “It’s really exciting. You work really hard at it and once all your hard work pays off it’s really rewarding to be able to do something as big as this.”

Those three youth swimmers start competing at the State Games Of America Nationals Sunday in Lynchburg, Virginia.
