Local volunteer fire department hosts parade

The Quail Creek volunteer fire department celebrated birthdays with a parade

VICTORIA, Texas — The Quail Creek volunteer fire department brought some joy to two children that were celebrating birthdays: Skylar Ragnow, 11, and Hayes Langridge, who turned 3.

The parade was held at 6 p.m. and featured a variety of firetrucks including a pink truck to honor breast cancer. The trucks could be seen and heard throughout the neighborhood, honking their horns and flashing their bright lights. Residents were able to watch the parade and show their appreciation of the effort from the safety of their homes.

The fire department got the idea from Langridge’s mother, who expressed concern about her child not being able to celebrate with their families due to COVID-19. Fire Chief Ron Kramer said they are just trying to lift the spirits of the community during a difficult time.

“Well unfortunately with the social distancing there’s a lot of [peoples] birthdays and special occasions that have to be canceled,” said Kramer. “We want to cruse the neighborhood and try to lift the hearts and spirits of our neighbors.”
