Local teams return from College Station

Two local teams returned from state competitions in College Station on Sunday.

Cuero Select Track and qualifiers from the Coastal Bend Swim League both competed at TAAF State Championships in College Station this weekend. Cuero Select participated at the TAAF Track and Field Summer Games of Texas, while area swimmers went to Texas A&M for TAAF Swim Championships.

Cuero Select had fifteen athletes qualify for the summer games, with three of them finishing in the top eight, statewide. Paisley Janssen earned a second place finish with a personal record of 4’8″ in the 12U high jump, while Trentel Johnson finished third in the 10U shot put with a throw of 26’7″. In the 6U 50 meter dash, Quentin Darks came in fourth place, earning a ribbon.

In swimming, which was held at Texas A&M, local swimmers showed out as well. The Coastal Bend Swim League was represented by fifty area swimmers at State, bringing back nineteen medals in total. Six of the nineteen medals won were gold.

All of the medal-winning swimmers at State also qualified for next year’s National Swim Meet in Ames and Des Moines, Iowa.
