Local reaction to Australia fires by The Texas Zoo
If you visit the Texas Zoo you can see some birds including cockatoos that are from Australia - as well as some Emu.
As the fires continue to rage in Australia during their worst wildfire season on record – we spoke with our local zoo’s executive director about the impact on the country’s biodiversity as more than 200 fires continue to burn. The fires have left hundreds of people stranded on beaches.
“So the raging fires in Australia are truly a travesty and there’s so much biodiversity being lost because of that and billions of animals are being lost to fire,” said Elizabeth Jensen, Executive Director of The Texas Zoo. “At least there is some hope potentially down the road because of our role as zoos.”
