Local organizations attracting tourism are urged to apply for hotel occupancy tax funds
Here is how to apply by the deadline of July 30
VICTORIA, Texas – Local organizations that help attract tourism to the City of Victoria can begin applying for hotel occupancy tax (HOT) funds for 2022.
The City collects a hotel occupancy tax from hotels, bed-and-breakfasts and other lodging facilities, under Texas law, and the revenue must be used to promote tourism, along with the convention and hotel industry.
Priority will be granted to applicants based on their ability to bring overnight visitors to Victoria. To be eligible to receive funding, events and programs must generate meaningful hotel night activity.
The application form can be accessed at www.victoriatx.gov.businessassistance, and completed applications should be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org no later than 5 p.m. on July 30.
The HOT funds’ subcommittee of the Tourism Advisory Board will review the applications and make recommendations to the City Council, who will make the final decision on funding.
Workshops covering the HOT funds’ application and evaluation processes will take place on July 14 at 6 p.m., July 20 a noon, July 22 at noon and July 27 at 6 p.m. Meetings will be held in at 700 Main Center in conference room 205 via Zoom. For information on how to join through Zoom, visit www.victoriatx.gov/businessassistance.
All applicants are urged to attend a workshop, considering attendance will be taken into consideration during application scoring.
