Local golfers competing at STPGA Junior Championship
VICTORIA, Texas — School is nearly back in session, but some local golfers have one more tournament to play this summer.
Six area youth golfers are traveling to the Woodlands on Tuesday to compete in the Southern Texas PGA Junior Championships at Woodlands CC. The tournament will tee off on Wednesday and conclude Thursday.
Carter Heldt, Jonas Roth, and Jack Wise will compete in the boys’ 11-12 year old division, while Wyatt Klekar and Jacob Pena tee off in the boys’ 15-18 year old age group. Emma Koch, the lone female qualifier from the Crossroads, will play in the girls’ 13-14 year old division.
Both qualifiers for the tournament a year ago, Roth and Heldt say they couldn’t be more excited to be returning.
“Super excited,” said Heldt when asked about qualifying again. “I’m so happy that I get to play with the people that I know, and hopefully I’ll win this year.”
“I’m hoping to get a better finish than I did last year,” added Roth. “But, yeah, I have to stay with it and hopefully I’ll win one someday.”
The Junior Championship is the final event on the summer calendar for the STPGA, and is eligible only to those who qualify through the STPGA’s point system.
