Local Golf Pro Wins Two Southern Texas PGA Awards
The election results are in, and the winner is…David Ramirez.
It’s the annual Southern Texas PGA election, and Ramirez, golf head pro at The Club At Colony Creek, won two awards from the Southern chapter elections. Ramirez was named Golf Professional Of The Year and he takes the Youth Player Development award as well. Ramirez started as head pro at The Club At Colony Creek on October 4, and he told me how special these awards are to him and the club. “First of all it’s an honor and I’m very thankful for my peers that voted me in. It’s just a true blessing and I’m very humble. I just try to do my job and I love the game. I love this game and I have a passion for it.”
Something amazing just happened at The Club At Colony Creek. Three holes in one were made there in a four day period. Ronnie Wiese made a hole in one on number five from 175 yards out on Friday evening. Cameron Gomez made a hole in one on number two from 151 yards out on Saturday. Jesse Martinez made a hole in one on number 11 with a four iron on Monday.
Eagle Pointe Golf Club will play host to the 22 nd Lone Star NGL Texas Senior Open presented by S & B and Vortech Contracting on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 – Friday, November 9, 2018. This marks the fifth consecutive year that Eagle Pointe, a 6,467-yard, par 71 layout has hosted this prestigious senior championship.
The 54-hole stroke play event consists of 100 players not only from Texas but from all over the country. The Senior Division will play 36-holes before being cut to the low 30 scores and ties, while a Champion will be named in the Veterans Division after two rounds of play.
In last year’s event, Kent Jones of Los Ranchos, N.M. posted rounds of 65-69-68 for a three-day total of 11-under-par to edge out Brian Wilson by two strokes for the win.
PGA Life Member David Lundstrom, the teaching and touring pro at The Club At Colony Creek, shot even par in the opening round and a 65, five better than his age, in the final round to capture the Veteran title by 11 shots. Chuck Moran (Grinnell, Iowa) followed in second with a two-day total of 147 (+5), with David Faulkner (Humble, Texas) and Marshall Gavre (Green Valley, Arizona) tied for third with 151 (+9).
Prior to the Senior Open on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, Eagle Pointe hosted the Lone Star NGL Texas Senior Open Pro-Am. All proceeds went to local charities within Mont Belvieu and the STPGA Foundation. Over the last four years, this event has raised over $50,000. The Stryker Fuels team of Greg Wallace, Tracy Thomassee, James Copeland, Alex Turbeville, and Mike Standly took the top spot with a total of 113 in the shamble event.
