Local Golf Pro On Winning STPGA Team

Mitchell Goes 1-1-1 At Joe Black Cup

A local golf pro, once again on the winning team of a major state event.
Joe Mitchell, PGA Director Of Golf at Victoria Country Club, playing on the winning Southern Texas PGA team last week in the Joe Black Cup matches at Hockley. Mitchell’s team first tied a Northern Texas PGA team, then his second twosome won an alternate shot match. On the final day, Mitchell lost his singles matchup one-up on 18. The cup matches ended in a tie, giving the title to the Southern Texas PGA. Mitchell’s STPGA teams are 3-2 in the cup matches, and his personal Joe Black Cup record is 7-6-2. I talked with Joe about the experience of playing in the Joe Black Cup.

“Team atmosphere is just amazing. You ask those guys on tour about Ryder and Presidents’ Cups, being able to get your 12 guys together. We all stayed in the same hotel. That first night we watched the Astros in game five in Washington. You get that team building. “
Joe Mitchell and VCC golf assistant pro Jonathan Allen will play in a two-man tournament in two weeks in Georgetown.
