Local Golf Pro Gets Major Honor 9-5

Mitchell Picked For Special STPGA Team

A major honor for a Victoria golf pro.
Joe Mitchell, PGA Director Of Golf at Victoria Country Club, picked to play on the Southern Texas PGAa team in the annual Joe Black Cup matches. This annual Ryder Cup-style event is between the Southern Texas and Northern Texas PGA. This is the fifth time Mitchell has been picked for the STPGA team. His team record is 2-2 overall, Mitchell’s individual record in the Joe Black Cup is 7-6-1. Last week, Mitchell shot a final round 70 at the Southern Texas PGA Professional Championship, finishing in a tie for 18th. He told me his thoughts about his performance in that tournament.

“Played good Wednesday morning. I shot three under on my first nine. Had a good chance to do a couple more and shot one over on the back. It was good to have a nice under par round, especially going into the APT Tour event this next week.”

Joe Mitchell will play on his home course at VCC for the Victoria Open, the local stop on the Adams Pro Tour, starting next Wednesday. The Joe Black Cup, starting Cctober 28 at The Clubs At Houston Oaks in Hockley.
