Local funeral home finds a way to help senior citizens stay cool this summer

The heat is expected to rise for the next few months and this can be deadly for senior citizens.

In Victoria, Angel Lucy Funeral Home has found a way to give back.

“So today we’re kicking off the first day of summer with our fan drive for the elderly in the Crossroads,” said Nicholas Amaya, the GM of Angel Lucy Funeral Home Fan Drive.

Angel Lucy is looking for senior citizens in need of a fan in Victoria and Port Lavaca. They are asking each person to be at least 65 years old.

“We just ask that you bring proof of assistance and your drivers licenses and that should be it,” said Amaya.

According to the Center of Disease Control and Prevention, each year approximately 650 people die of the heat and a majority of these deaths are adults over the age of 65.

“Well we know it’s getting really hot outside and not everybody has something to cool them off this summer, so we want to be the funeral home that gives back to the community and hopefully a fan will help them,” said Amaya

Angel Lucy has approximately 600 fans to give to seniors in the Crossroads community, and they are giving them out to the first people who come to pick them up.

Here are the addresses to pick up a fan in Victoria and Port Lavaca.

“We just ask that you come by the funeral home here in Victoria at 706 East Crestwood Dr. or our sister location in Port Lavaca its 827 W. Austin,” said Amaya.

If you’re over the age of 65 and interested in receiving a fan you can pick it up between the hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
