Local Family Continues Pig Showing Tradition at Victoria Livestock Show

“The first thing my grandpa said when I was born was ‘Now he gets to show’ so its been generation passed,” Victoria resident, Collin Robles said.

Collin Robles has been showing pigs at the Victoria Livestock Show since he was 9 years old. His father says its a family tradition passed down from generation to generation.

“My grandpa showed steers back in the 50’s and my dad showed pigs. I showed pigs and now my kids show pigs,” Cody Robles said.

“My first year I placed first in breed champion and my second year I placed third,” Collin said.

This year Collin named his 270 pound pig, Beautiful, and he prides himself on how big she has gotten.

“Its fun to grow up with them and seeing them when they’re little but seeing them grow and progress is just amazing,” Collin said.

Showing pigs has taught Collin many lessons in character and competition.

“This has taught me responsibility caring for my pig,” Collin said.

And Collin doesn’t plan to stop any time soon.

“I’m going to keep on doing it until my senior year, until I go to college,” he said.
