Local church held an active shooter training after recent mass shootings
VICTORIA, Texas — More than 40 people joined together at God’s Church Sunday to gain knowledge of what to do in an active shooting.
“This is something the Victoria Police Department has always wanted to do because of the violence and stuff that’s been going on, but even beforehand they wanted to make sure people know how to protect themselves,” says Pastor Larry Green, Pastor of God’s Church.
Pastor Green felt like it was important for the church to have an active shooting training because of previously reported incidents like the shooting in Sutherland Springs.
He says it’s better to be prepared in case of a shooting than regret not taking precautionary action ahead of time.
“To me, this is a chance for us to not only protect our people spiritually, but also do what we can to protect them physically because I think the church has a responsibility to look out for people who are a part of their church or congregation,” said Pastor Green.
Pastor Green says it’s better for his congregation to be safe than sorry.
The police say’s the best way to be prepared is to know how to respond if something like this occurred.
