Local boxer shines in pro debut
Acosta is the number three ranked fighter in the nation
FLORESVILLE, Texas — Ramon Acosta jr. and his family, who he calls his number one fans, traveled to the Event Center in Floresville to take on Jose Rodriguez from San Antonio for his first pro fight on September 25th. Rodriguez came into the fight as the bigger and older fighter, but that didn’t stop Acosta, the #3 ranked boxer in the nation, from putting on a clinic in the ring. Ramon dominated the whole time and would cap off his first fight with a TKO in the second round. He explains his walk to the ring.
It was amazing, there were a lot of people cheering. Little Kids came up to me, wanting me to touch their hand and I would, said Acosta. As I was walking up, I was focused and ready to go.
After the fight, Acosta celebrated by thrusting his hands in the air and putting on a blue sombrero.
I expected it to be an easy fight, you know “train hard fight easy,” said Acosta. I did my thing and I won.
The undefeated boxer explains that he plans to keep training and stay ready for his next match, which is yet to be determined.
